About Bill

Bill Blackburn is a consultant, educator, writer and cultural change advocate. Currently focused on developing healthcare providers’ skill in the delivery of culturally competent care to their LGBT patients, Bill’s trainings enable participants to establish greater comfort, understanding and effectivenessPortrait of Bill in their work. Bill has designed and facilitated hundreds of workshops, trainings, vision retreats, staff retreats and heartcircles with an emphasis on:

  • building community
  • empowering leadership
  • heart-centered communication
  • dialogue across difference
  • consensus decision-making
  • teambuilding
  • holding space for transformative experience
  • integral/evolutionary consciousness

His work with a wide variety of people has led him to create his own blend of Integral Diversity that is a worldview honoring difference and equally grounded in an experience of the commonality of all humankind. Active in the LGBT liberation movement for many years, Bill has worked extensively in HIV prevention and has been a member and president of the Board of Directors of the Billy Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to fostering heart-centered brotherhood among Gay, Bi and Queer men. He is the founder and principal of Building Community with Heart that is committed to creating containers where people can open to life-changing movement. Additionally, Bill has been active in The UNtraining, a program that provides tools and resources for people interested in exploring issues of race and privilege. Bill was invited to participate in an online African American Wisdom Summit speaking about the path that led him to becoming a racial justice advocate and ally.

Among his current projects are two manuscripts: Swifty and the Fear of Flying, a fable for our time, and Getting to the Heart of It: Evolutionary Consciousness and Cultural Change in a Titanic Age.
